What you need

  • Filled and signed Form 28 (printed from eFNS)
  • Detailed cover letter to the Director General of Immigration Services
  • Copies of the passport bio-data page (and/or national ID) for both you and the dependant
  • 2 recent coloured passport-size photos of the dependant
  • Proof of the relationship, e.g. certified copy of the marriage or birth certificate
  • Proof you have enough steady income to support yourself and the dependant
  • Copy of your valid work permit, with at least 6 months left before it expires

Steps

  1. Create a Government of Kenya single sign-on account and use it to log in to the eFNS portal (fns.immigration.go.ke).
  2. Under "Submit Applications", choose the dependant pass, fill in Form 28 and print it at the end.
  3. Once approved, an invoice appears under Dashboard > Payments. Pay it online.
  4. Take the application printouts to Immigration headquarters at Nyayo House, Nairobi.

Watch out

  • A dependant pass does not allow the holder to work or run a business, paid or unpaid. They need their own permit for that.
  • An approval notice is not the pass. The dependant can't live, work or do business on it until the pass itself is issued.
  • Incomplete applications are not accepted.

Who can apply

  • Foreign dependants (like a spouse or child) of a work permit holder, a permanent resident, a Kenyan citizen or an exempted person.
