Apply for the Presidential Secondary School Bursary (PSSB) for orphans and vulnerable learners
State Department for Children Services · sources read 2 Oct 2026
If your child is an orphan or vulnerable learner from a very poor home and is in a public boarding secondary school, fill the PSSB bursary form and hand it to your constituency's Presidential Bursary Sub-committee. It pays up to KSh 30,000 per student; the family covers any balance.
- Fee
- We couldn't confirm a fee from the official page. Check it there before you pay.
- Where
- At constituency level, through the Presidential Bursary Sub-committee of the Constituency Social Assistance Committee
What you need
- The prescribed PSSB bursary application form, fully filled in
Steps
- Get the prescribed PSSB bursary form and fill it in fully.
- Hand it in at constituency level. The Presidential Bursary Sub-committee (part of the Constituency Social Assistance Committee) receives, vets and approves applicants.
- If approved, the bursary pays school fees of up to KSh 30,000 for the student. The parent or guardian pays anything above that.
Watch out
- Students in day schools or private secondary schools can't get PSSB. Try the NG-CDF constituency bursary instead.
- KSh 30,000 is the most it pays per student, so plan for any fee balance.
Who can apply
- Orphans and vulnerable children from very poor households
- The student must be in a public boarding secondary school
- Under 18 years old when first joining the bursary
- Living in the target location within the constituency
- Needy children from statutory children's institutions also qualify
