Change a society's officials, office address, name or constitution
Registrar of Societies · sources read 2 Oct 2026
Pass the change at a general meeting as your constitution says, then notify the Registrar of Societies: Form H for new officials, Form B for a new office address, and an application for a name change or constitution amendment. Attach the signed minutes and pay any fee due.
- Fee
- We couldn't confirm a fee from the official page. Check it there before you pay.
- Where
- Registrar of Societies, Sheria House, Harambee Avenue, Nairobi. The Registrar's online portal is societies.ecitizen.go.ke.
What you need
- New officials: Form H (Notification of Change of Office Bearers)
- New office: Form B with the physical office and postal address
- Minutes of the meeting, signed by the officials
- For a virtual or hybrid meeting: the video recording of the decision and the list of members who attended
Steps
- Call a general meeting with proper notice: at least 21 days for an AGM or 7 days for a special general meeting.
- Pass the change (new officials, address, name or constitution) the way your constitution says.
- Write up the minutes and have the officials sign them.
- Send the notice or application to the Registrar of Societies with proof of the resolution (Form H for officials, Form B for the address).
- Pay the fee for the change where one applies.
Watch out
- The Registrar confirms officials only where there's no dispute. If members are fighting over leadership, expect a delay.
- Check your constitution first: it must say how the name and constitution can be changed, and you have to follow that.
Who can apply
- Societies registered with the Registrar of Societies (welfare groups, churches, clubs, alumni and other associations).
