Check if a bank, digital lender, forex bureau or money remitter is licensed by CBK

Open the Bank Supervision page on centralbank.go.ke and pick the right directory: commercial banks, microfinance banks, digital credit providers (loan apps), forex bureaus or money remittance providers. Search the PDF for the company's name.

Steps
- Go to centralbank.go.ke, open Bank Supervision and find the section for the type of company you are checking.
- For a bank, open the directory of licensed commercial banks and mortgage finance companies; for a microfinance bank, the microfinance banks directory.
- For a forex bureau or a money transfer company, open the forex bureaus or money remittance providers directory.
- For a loan app, open the directory of digital credit providers and search for the company's name. Check the 'updated on' date at the top.
Watch out
- An old 2022 list of digital lenders is still online. Use the latest one from the Bank Supervision page.
- Since December 2021 the law requires digital lenders to be licensed and supervised by CBK.
