Look for the PCPB registration number on the label and check the product against PCPB's free list of registered products at pcpb.go.ke, which also lists banned products. Report fake, illegal or misused pesticides through the PCPB complaints form on its website, by email to info@pcpb.go.ke or on 0720 480 904.

Steps

  1. Check the label for the PCPB registration number. Registered crop products carry numbers like PCPB(CR)1307.
  2. Search the product or registration number in the Registered Products lists on pcpb.go.ke (crops, public health, termiticides). It's free.
  3. Check the 'Banned Products in Kenya' and 'Restricted Products' pages. For example, DDT is banned.
  4. Check that the shop or agrovet is on PCPB's Certified Premises list.
  5. To report, fill the PCPB Customer Complaints Form (PCPB Complaints Handling page) with the date, place and what happened, or contact PCPB on 0720 480 904 or info@pcpb.go.ke.

Watch out

  • Don't buy pesticides from hawkers or unlicensed shops, or in unbranded packs with no label or manufacturer details. Keep an official receipt.
  • Chlorpyrifos and chlorpyrifos-methyl products may no longer be used on crops. They are restricted to building and construction use only.
  • Don't buy expired pesticides. Check the date of manufacture and shelf life on the pack.

Who can apply

  • Anyone: farmers, buyers, sellers or members of the public. Your contact details on the complaint form are optional.
