Check if an investment firm, broker or money market fund is CMA-licensed
Capital Markets Authority · sources read 2 Oct 2026
Before you send money, search the firm or fund on CMA's official List of Licensees (licensees.cma.or.ke). If it is not there, don't invest: unlicensed firms leave you with no protection.
- Fee
- We couldn't confirm a fee from the official page. Check it there before you pay.
- Where
- Online at CMA's List of Licensees (licensees.cma.or.ke)
Steps
- Open licensees.cma.or.ke and pick the category: stockbrokers, fund managers, investment advisers, online forex brokers, investment banks and more.
- For a money market fund or unit trust, open 'Approved Collective Investment Schemes' and look for the exact fund name under its scheme.
- Match the exact company name. If you can't find it, treat it as unlicensed and don't invest.
- If you've already been conned by an unlicensed scheme, report to CMA or to your nearest DCI office.
Watch out
- Money put into unlicensed or unapproved schemes has no protection under capital markets law. You can lose all of it.
- CMA has publicly named entities like CBEX, QVSE, Kore Exchange and Just Markets as operating unlawfully (September 2026 caution).
- A licensed company can still sell unregulated products. Check that the specific fund is approved, not just the company.
Who can apply
- Anyone. The list is public and free to search, no account needed.
