Write to the State Department for Co-operatives (the Commissioner for Co-operative Development) by email, online or in person, and attach your supporting documents. It's free; you should be acknowledged within a day and get feedback within 10 days.

- A written complaint with your supporting documents (for example receipts, statements, minutes or letters)
Steps
- Write down your complaint about the co-operative and gather your supporting documents.
- Send it by email to ps@ushirika.go.ke, use the contact form on ushirika.go.ke (choose "Complaints"), or walk in to NSSF Building, 24th Floor, Nairobi.
- Expect an acknowledgment within a day and feedback within 10 days. If the matter is investigated, that takes 30 to 60 working days.
- Once an inquiry is done, you can apply to the Commissioner for a certified copy of the inquiry report. It costs KSh 2,000 and takes about 5 days.
Watch out
- Carrying out inquiries, inspections and investigations into co-operatives is a national government job, so this is the right office for dairy, coffee, housing and other co-operatives.
- Deposit-taking SACCOs and specified non-deposit-taking SACCOs are supervised by SASRA, which has its own complaints channel.
- To have a dispute with a co-operative settled (for example over money owed to you), the Co-operative Tribunal hears and settles co-operative disputes.
