The Judiciary of Kenya · sources read 30 Sep 2026

Open a free account on the Judiciary e-filing portal (efiling.court.go.ke), pick the court, upload your case documents as PDFs and pay the fee the system works out, by M-Pesa, KCB or RTGS. You get a receipt and your case number is created automatically.

Fee
We couldn't confirm a fee from the official page. Check it there before you pay.
Where
Online on the Judiciary e-filing portal (efiling.court.go.ke), also reachable from eCitizen Judiciary (judiciary.ecitizen.go.ke)
Go to the official site

What you need

  • To sign up: your names as on your national ID, ID number, a working email address and phone number
  • Your case documents (e.g. plaint, affidavit, annexures) as soft copies in PDF, each clearly labelled
  • Enough money to pay the court fees, preferably by mobile money

Steps

  1. Go to efiling.court.go.ke (also linked from judiciary.go.ke and eCitizen Judiciary), sign up for an account and activate it.
  2. Click File New Case, then choose the court level (Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, High Court or Magistrate Court), the court station and division.
  3. Add the parties and upload each document separately as a PDF.
  4. Confirm and submit, open the case fees tab and click Pay Now. Pay by M-Pesa, KCB Teller, KCB Mtaani or RTGS.
  5. After paying you get an SMS and an e-receipt in the portal, and your case number is generated.

Watch out

  • Check every document before you submit. Once submitted, you can't change or delete it.
  • Filing on a weekend, public holiday or after working hours counts as filed on the next working day.
  • The system works out the fee, but the court can review it if it was assessed too low, so you may be asked to top up.

Who can apply

  • Members of the public, advocates (LSK members), organisations and government agencies.
  • You don't need a lawyer: if you are representing yourself, register an individual account.
