Steps

  1. Contact the county's Firefighting and Disaster Management team to book a fire inspection of your premises.
  2. Pay the inspection fee for your business type, for example KSh 500 for a retail shop or KSh 1,000 for a wholesale shop.
  3. Have your fire extinguishers inspected (KSh 200 each).
  4. Get the certificate of inspection; for commercial premises it costs KSh 5,000.

Watch out

  • Fees are charged per inspection and some have come down: a small supermarket now pays KSh 2,000, not the old KSh 3,000.
  • The Finance Act lists a KSh 5,000 commercial premises certificate as well as fees by business type, so ask the fire office which ones you pay.

Who can apply

  • Businesses in Laikipia County, from small retail shops to hotels, supermarkets, banks, hospitals and factories.
