Get a miraa (khat) export licence

Miraa export licences are applied for online on AFA IMIS, and each export permit on KenTrade's Trade Facilitation Platform. The miraa licensing rules changed in 2023, so confirm fees and requirements with AFA before you apply.

- Certificate of incorporation (companies)
- National ID card
- Valid KRA tax compliance certificate
- Valid business permit
Steps
- Apply for the miraa export licence online on AFA IMIS (imis.afa.go.ke) and upload your documents.
- For each shipment, apply and pay for an export permit on KenTrade's Trade Facilitation Platform.
Watch out
- The miraa licensing rules changed in 2023 (new Crops (Miraa) Regulations). We could not confirm the current fees, renewal dates or processing times from an official source, so check with AFA before you pay.
- An export permit is valid for only 48 hours, so apply when the consignment is ready to go.
