Get a prize competition licence for a promotion

Apply to GRA on Form 4 through its Gambling Management System (operator.gra.go.ke) and pay the KSh 10,000 application fee. GRA reviews it within 14 days, and the licence lasts 3 months.

What you need
- Form 4, the prize competition licence application
- Valid KRA Tax Compliance Certificate and PIN certificate
- Full terms and conditions of the promotion
- How winners will be picked
- Draft promo artwork showing the prizes, how to enter and the promotion period
Steps
- Fill Form 4 and gather the documents: KRA compliance and PIN certificates, terms and conditions, winner selection method and promo artwork.
- Log in to GRA's Gambling Management System at operator.gra.go.ke and submit your application.
- Pay the KSh 10,000 application fee.
- GRA reviews the application within 14 days and lets you know the outcome.
Watch out
- On top of the application fee, the licence itself costs 10% of the total promotion budget for 90 days (20% for 180 days). Non-commercial promos pay a share of the prize budget instead.
- A promotion confined to one county is licensed by that county government, not GRA.
- Commercial prize competitions must show proof of gambling capital, set at KSh 100 million in the regulations.
Who can apply
- Registered businesses running a free-entry contest, giveaway or similar promotion with prizes for a product or service.
