Elgeyo Marakwet County's Fire Fighting and Disaster Management unit inspects and certifies premises each year: KSh 3,000 for hotels, restaurants and lodgings, KSh 5,000 for a factory, KSh 10,000 for a petrol station and KSh 5,000 per floor for malls.

Steps
- Ask the county's Fire Fighting and Disaster Management unit for a fire inspection of your premises.
- Pay the yearly certificate of inspection fee for your type of premises, for example KSh 3,000 for a hotel, restaurant or lodging.
- Have your fire extinguishers inspected too (KSh 1,000 a year).
Watch out
- Malls and multi-business buildings pay KSh 5,000 for each floor, every year.
- Factories pay an extra KSh 3,000 a year for follow-up visits.
