What you need

  • Certificate of incorporation or business registration certificate
  • CR12 not older than 1 year (companies)
  • Clear copies of all directors' IDs or passports
  • Valid KRA tax compliance certificate
  • Valid county single business permit for the premises
  • Proof you own at least 5,000 cylinders (0.5, 1, 3, 6 or 13 kg), or written distributorship authority from a licensed brand owner
  • Valid county fire clearance certificate for the premises
  • Weighing scale calibration certificate from Weights and Measures
  • Colour photo of the shop showing the cylinder cage and neighbouring premises

Steps

  1. Go to the EPRA licensing portal and create an account.
  2. Open License Management, choose New Licence Application, and pick your category: Retail of LPG in Cylinders, Storage and Filling of LPG, Retail of LPG at Autogas Dispensing Station, or Retail of LPG via Smart Meter Technology.
  3. Accept the licence conditions, fill in the details, attach the documents for your category and submit.

Watch out

  • The licence lasts one year, so renew it every year.
  • Refilling cylinders needs a different licence (Storage and Filling of LPG) with a much longer list, including a NEMA licence, KEBS conformity letter, DOSHS registration and CCTV at the filling area.
  • Delivering more than three cylinders at a time to customers needs a separate EPRA licence.

Who can apply

  • A registered business (company certificate of incorporation or business name certificate).
  • A gas retailer must own at least 5,000 cylinders, or have written authority to distribute a licensed brand.
