Get building plans approved by Lamu County

Buy the KSh 1,000 building application form from the county lands and physical planning department and pay the plan approval fee by floor area. A house above 150 square metres pays KSh 50 per square metre, plus KSh 30 per square metre for structural drawings.

Steps
- Get the building application form (KSh 1,000) from the county lands and physical planning department.
- Pay the plan approval fee, set by your floor area and building type.
- Pay for approval of the structural drawings (KSh 30 per square metre for a house).
- Get the drainage plans approved by public health.
- After county inspection, get an occupation permit certificate (KSh 5,000 for a house).
Watch out
- Building without an approved plan attracts a KSh 5,000 penalty.
- Approved plans need renewal: it costs 30% of the original invoice.
