Apply to the county physical planning office with Form PPA1 (KSh 1,000) and pay the plan approval fee. For a bungalow it is KSh 4,000 in Hola Municipality, KSh 3,000 in Garsen, Minjila, Bura, Madogo, Mororo and Bangale, and KSh 2,000 elsewhere, plus KSh 25 per square metre for the architectural plan.

Steps
- Get and fill the physical planning application form PPA1 (KSh 1,000) at the county lands and physical planning office.
- Pay the building plan approval fee for your area and house type.
- Pay the architectural plan fee by floor area; the structural design fee is half of that.
- The county inspects the site (KSh 4,000 for a plot) and inspects each building stage.
Watch out
- Building without an approved building plan attracts a KSh 2,000 penalty.
- VAT applies to building plan approval fees, so expect it on top of the listed amounts.
- Renewing an approved plan costs KSh 10,000.
