Steps

  1. Fill in the development application form PPA1 at the county physical planning department and pay KSh 3,000.
  2. Pay the plan approval fee for your plinth area, for example KSh 2,500 for a house of 50 to 100 m2, and the KSh 3,500 site inspection fee.
  3. Pay the structural plan fee too (from KSh 3,000 for up to 50 m2).
  4. Once approved, collect the development authority certificate (KSh 4,500).
  5. When the building is done, get the building occupation certificate from public health (KSh 2,000 in the municipality, KSh 1,000 elsewhere).

Watch out

  • Regularising a building put up without approval costs a share of the property's value: 2.5% in the municipality, 1.5% in extended areas and 0.5% in the sub-counties.
