Get building plans approved by Turkana County

Apply to Turkana County's physical planning department for a development permit before you build, and pay KSh 200 per sq.m to process architectural plans plus an application fee of KSh 500 (small project) or KSh 1,000 (big project). Public health plan approval is extra, KSh 1,500 for an unstoreyed house.

Steps
- Apply for a development permit to the county department responsible for physical planning, in Lodwar.
- Pay the plan processing fee of KSh 200 per sq.m of plinth area, plus the application fee: KSh 500 for a small project or KSh 1,000 for a big one.
- Get public health approval of the plans: KSh 1,500 for an unstoreyed house, KSh 3,000 single storey, KSh 10,000 multi-storey, plus KSh 1,000 site inspection.
- The county issues the development permit only after you pay the fees and meet the other legal requirements.
- During construction, building inspections cost KSh 1,000 per visit.
Watch out
- Building without a development permit is an offence: a fine of up to KSh 500,000, up to one year in jail, or both.
