What you need

  • Proof that last year's permit and any penalties are paid (if you are renewing)
  • Proof that property rates for your plot are cleared for the year

Steps

  1. Find your fee: it depends on your type of business and where it is (Kitui town, Mwingi town, a sub-county headquarters or another trading centre).
  2. If you are renewing, clear last year's permit and any penalties first. The plot's property rates must also be paid for the year.
  3. Pay the permit fee to the County Government of Kitui. You get an official receipt, then the county issues your permit.
  4. Put the permit up where it can be seen at your business, and show it to a county officer when asked.

Watch out

  • From 1 April, an unpaid permit grows by 3% a month, compounded.
  • No permit is issued for a business on a plot whose property rates for the year are unpaid.
  • Keep the permit or receipt on display at your premises at all times.

Who can apply

  • Anyone who wants to run a business in Kitui County.
