Pay customs duty on goods you bring into Kenya or parcels from abroad
Kenya Revenue Authority Customs & Border Control · sources read 30 Sep 2026
Used personal items are duty free, and new goods worth up to USD 500 per traveller are exempt if you declare them. Above that, declare on Form F88, a customs officer works out the tax, and you pay at the terminal bank or by mobile money. For a parcel, take your ID or passport and tracking number to Posta, open it for the customs officer and pay the tax.
- Fee
- We couldn't confirm a fee from the official page. Check it there before you pay.
- How long
- Clearing at the airport: within 15 minutes
- Where
- In person with KRA customs at your airport or border point of entry; for parcels, at the Posta customs office
What you need
- Passenger Declaration Form (F88), filled in
- For a parcel: your ID, passport or residence permit, plus the tracking number
- For a parcel: the invoice or receipt for what you bought
Steps
- Before you land, fill in the Passenger Declaration Form (F88) and hand it to a customs officer at the point of entry.
- Use the Green Channel if you have nothing to declare and are within the duty-free allowance. Use the Red Channel if you carry dutiable or restricted goods.
- If tax is due, the customs officer generates an electronic payment slip. Pay at a bank inside the terminal or by mobile money, then take your goods.
- For a parcel, go to Posta with your ID and tracking number. Open the parcel in front of the customs officer, who assesses the tax.
- Pay the tax by mobile money, bank or card, then pay Posta's handling and storage charges and collect your parcel.
Watch out
- The USD 500 duty-free limit is per traveller and only covers goods in your own baggage that you declare.
- Alcohol has its own limit: no more than 1 litre of spirits or 2 litres of wine duty free.
- Not declaring, or declaring the wrong price, is an offence. Your goods can be seized.
Who can apply
- Everyone arriving in Kenya, who must declare to customs
- Anyone collecting a personal parcel sent from abroad through Posta
