Within 30 days of the company giving security for a loan, lodge the charge instrument with the right form (CR25, CR26 or CR27) on the BRS eCitizen portal and pay KSh 2,000 to 14,000. BRS issues a Certificate of Mortgage in about 2 days.

Steps

- Lodge it on the BRS portal on eCitizen and pay by mobile money or card, within 30 days of the charge being created.
- BRS registers the charge and issues a Certificate of Mortgage.
- When the loan is paid off, you can file Form CR28 so the register shows the charge is cleared. It is optional but helps with future lenders.
Watch out
- If you miss the deadline and the company becomes insolvent, the charge is void against the liquidator and other creditors. The loan is still owed, but it is no longer secured.
- BRS cannot accept a late charge on its own. Only the court can extend the time.
Who can apply
- The company that gave the security, or anyone with an interest in the charge (for example the lender).
