What you need

  • Academic and professional certificates in procurement and supplies, certified by the institution that issued them
  • Certified copy of your national ID
  • Passport-size photo
  • Letter from your employer or your CV
  • For the licence: your CV and a valid KISM membership card

Steps

  1. Create an account on the KISM member portal (member.kism.or.ke), fill in your details, upload your documents and submit your membership application.
  2. Pay with the pro-forma invoice the portal generates: M-Pesa paybill 552500, using the invoice reference number as the account.
  3. KISM checks your application and its Registration Committee decides. You get the decision by email.
  4. Once you are a full member, log in, open the My documents tab and apply for a licence, then pay the KSh 6,000 invoice.

Watch out

  • By law, you can't work as a procurement or supplies practitioner without both KISM registration and a practising licence.
  • A licence lasts one year. Renew it every year, or your name is removed from the record.
  • KISM says it licenses people who have held a valid registration certificate for at least 3 years, so new members may have to wait before getting a licence.

Who can apply

  • Full membership: people with an academic or professional qualification in procurement or supply chain management.
  • Associate membership: people with experience in procurement who lack a professional qualification.
  • Practising licence: only full members and fellows of KISM.
