Directorate of Immigration Services · sources read 1 Oct 2026

If it was lost or stolen, get a police abstract first. Then apply and pay KSh 20,050 on eCitizen, book an appointment and go to a passport centre with your ID, a personal statement and a sworn affidavit. The new passport is usually ready in about 14 working days.

What you need

  • Printed application form (Form 19) and 2 payment invoices from eCitizen
  • Your original national ID card and a copy (adults)
  • Lost or stolen: a police abstract for the loss
  • A personal statement explaining what happened
  • A sworn affidavit supporting your statement
  • Lost: a copy of the lost passport's bio data page, if you have one
  • Damaged: the damaged passport and a copy

Steps

  1. If the passport was lost or stolen, report it at a police station and get a police abstract.
  2. Log in to eCitizen (dis.ecitizen.go.ke), fill in the passport application, upload your documents and pay the KSh 20,050 replacement fee.
  3. Book an appointment on eCitizen and pick a passport centre: Nairobi (Nyayo House), Kisumu, Mombasa, Eldoret, Nakuru, Embu, Kisii, Kericho or Bungoma.
  4. On the appointment day, go in person with the printed Form 19, both invoices and your documents for photo and fingerprints.
  5. When it's ready, collect it at the same centre with your invoice and original ID.

Watch out

  • Replacing a lost or damaged passport costs KSh 20,050, much more than a normal new passport. Keep it safe.
  • You collect the new passport only from the centre where you did biometrics.
  • Lost it while living abroad? You can replace it through the nearest Kenya Embassy or High Commission.

Who can apply

  • Kenyan citizens whose passport was lost, stolen or damaged. The new e-passport is valid for 10 years.
