What you need

  • Evidence: screenshots, links, and SMS, email or call logs
  • The affected system or service, with its web address where it has one

Steps

  1. Contain it straight away: disconnect the affected device, stop sharing passwords, and keep screenshots and links.
  2. Write down the date and time, the affected systems and anything suspicious you saw.
  3. Fill in the NC4 incident form at nc4.go.ke/report/form: what happened, when it happened and which system was affected.
  4. If it is urgent, call the NC4 cybercrime hotline on +254 716148341 or email info@nc4.go.ke.
  5. If money was lost, also contact your bank or mobile money provider.

Watch out

  • Don't delete suspicious messages, files or apps before reporting. They are evidence.
  • You can tick 'Submit anonymously' on the form if you don't want to give your name.
  • Found a security flaw in a system? Tell the organisation and NC4 through the coordinated disclosure process, and don't publish details until it is fixed.

  • Individuals (Kenyans or foreigners) hit by account takeover, phishing, fraud, impersonation or other suspicious digital activity.
  • Private and government organisations whose systems, staff, customers, operations or data are affected.
