Track a Bill in Parliament and how a law is made
Parliament of Kenya · sources read 4 Oct 2026
Open the National Assembly Bills page on parliament.go.ke: each Bill has a Bill Digest, a Bill Tracker and a 'Submit Comments' link, and the Bills Tracker PDF shows its first, second and third reading and assent dates. A Bill becomes law when Parliament passes it and the President assents.
- Fee
- We couldn't confirm a fee from the official page. Check it there before you pay.
- Where
- Online: parliament.go.ke, National Assembly > House Business > Bills and Bills Tracker.
Steps
- Go to parliament.go.ke > The National Assembly > House Business > Bills and find the Bill by name.
- Open the latest Bills Tracker (House Business > Bills Tracker). It lists every Bill before the National Assembly this year with its stage.
- Read the columns: 1st reading, 2nd reading, 3rd reading, remarks and assent. A date under assent means it is now law.
- To give your views, click 'Submit Comments' next to the Bill on the Bills page.
Watch out
- Passing Parliament is not the end: the President has 14 days to sign or send the Bill back with reservations.
- A new Act is published in the Gazette within 7 days of assent and starts 14 days after publication, unless it sets another date.
- Any MP or committee can introduce a Bill, but a money Bill (like the Finance Bill) can only start in the National Assembly.
Who can apply
- Anyone: Parliament must open its law-making to the public.
- Every person can petition Parliament, including to make, change or repeal a law.
