Who handles agriculture: county or national government
Constitution of Kenya 2010 · sources read 3 Oct 2026
Agriculture is mainly a county job: crop and animal husbandry, livestock sale yards, county abattoirs, plant and animal disease control, fisheries and veterinary services. The national government sets agricultural and veterinary policy.
- Where
- Your county's agriculture department for farming, livestock and fisheries services; the national government for agricultural policy
Steps
- For crops, livestock, sale yards, abattoirs, disease control or fisheries, go to your county's agriculture department.
- Veterinary services are also a county service.
- Agricultural and veterinary policy are set by the national government.
Watch out
- Counties run veterinary services, but regulating the veterinary profession is not a county function.
- Anything not given to counties by the Constitution or national law belongs to the national government.
