Steps

  1. Make sure the County Education Board has made a decision on your issue. The Tribunal hears appeals against those decisions.
  2. File your appeal on the Judiciary e-filing portal (efiling.court.go.ke) under the 'Tribunals' tab.
  3. Can't file online? The tribunal registry will help you file. You can also email edutr@court.go.ke.
  4. If both sides agree, the Tribunal can use mediation (ADR). Any agreement is recorded as a binding order.

Watch out

  • No lawyer needed. You can argue the appeal yourself or through a representative, such as an advocate, parent or guardian.
  • You don't have to be in Nairobi. The Tribunal sits virtually and hears cases from across the country.
  • Unhappy with the Tribunal's decision? Appeal to the High Court (Civil Division), and that appeal is final.

Who can apply

  • Anyone unhappy with a County Education Board decision: learners, parents, sponsors, education partners, county governments, trade unions and others.
  • Typical issues: denied exams or exam certificates, school fees overcharging, denied admission, unfair exclusion of learners, a school's deregistration, and corporal punishment.
