What you need

  • Your proposal with its supporting documents and proof of your organisation's registration
  • Once funded, to get money released: a funds request, financial report, bank details and bank statements

Steps

  1. Watch for a WaterFund call for proposals in the newspapers and on waterfund.go.ke. Read the guidelines and eligibility rules for that call.
  2. Submit your proposal to WaterFund headquarters before the deadline in the call.
  3. WRUAs send proposals through the Water Resources Authority, and CFAs through the Kenya Forest Service.
  4. WaterFund appraises the proposal at the desk and in the field, then its Board makes the final approval.
  5. If approved, you sign a financing agreement with WaterFund before the project starts.

Watch out

  • Each call can be limited to certain counties, communities, types of partners, a funding ceiling and a project duration. Check you fit before you write.
  • Submitting and appraising a proposal is free. If anyone asks you to pay, report it.
  • Report fraudsters to WaterFund's whistleblowing lines 0780 564 110 / 0707 621 526 or corruption@waterfund.go.ke.

Who can apply

  • Rural programme: water service providers, water users associations, conservancies and NGOs.
  • Urban programme: registered water utilities (WSPs) serving low-income areas.
  • Water resources programme: Water Resources Users Associations (WRUAs) and Community Forest Associations (CFAs).
