Watch for an approved offer from the Privatization Authority, then apply during the offer period through an authorised bank, stockbroker or investment bank. You need your ID and a CDS account.

Steps
- Know what is on sale. The Privatization Programme lists the state corporations to be sold. It is approved by Cabinet and the National Assembly and published in the Kenya Gazette.
- Check the method. Ordinary investors can buy when the sale is an initial public offer (IPO) of shares. Watch the Authority's notices at privatization.go.ke.
- Get your ID and CDS account details ready. If you don't have a CDS account, open one before the offer opens.
- Apply through an authorised selling agent (bank, stockbroker or investment bank), online on their platform or at a collection point, before the offer closes.
- Read the prospectus for the minimum amount and lot sizes before you apply.
Watch out
- Offers are open only for a set window. The Kenya Pipeline (KPC) IPO ran from 19 January to 24 February 2026 and is now closed.
- Some offers may be limited to Kenyans or set a minimum share for Kenyans, so check the terms of each offer.
Who can apply
- Anyone, Kenyan or not, unless another law limits non-Kenyans. The government can reserve an offer for Kenyans only.
