Check if a university or degree programme is accredited by CUE
Commission for University Education · sources read 1 Oct 2026
Open CUE's list of approved universities (latest one dated 15 September 2026) on cue.or.ke and look for the university by name. Then check your course in CUE's list of approved academic programmes before you enrol or pay.
- Fee
- We couldn't confirm a fee from the official page. Check it there before you pay.
- Where
- Online on cue.or.ke (Status of Universities and Programmes Offered in Universities in Kenya), or ask CUE at Red Hill Road off Limuru Road, Gigiri, Nairobi (020 7205000, 0780 656575)
Steps
- Go to cue.or.ke, open Accreditation > Status of Universities and download the list of approved universities. Use the newest one (currently as at 15 September 2026).
- Find the university and note its category: public or private chartered university, university college, or an institution with a Letter of Interim Authority (a new university that is not yet chartered).
- Check your course: open Programmes Offered in Universities in Kenya on cue.or.ke and download the list of approved academic programmes (latest as at 31 July 2026).
- If a college offers a degree together with a foreign university, or you can't find it on the lists, contact CUE before you enrol: 020 7205000 or 0780 656575, Red Hill Road off Limuru Road, Gigiri, Nairobi.
Watch out
- A university and its courses are accredited separately. A university being on the list doesn't prove your specific course is approved, so check both.
- CUE closes institutions that offer university education without its authority, so a degree from one can leave you stranded.
- This list covers universities in Kenya. For a degree earned from a foreign university, you apply to CUE separately for recognition.
Who can apply
- Anyone: students, parents and employers. CUE publishes the list for the public, and checking is free.
