Complain about misuse of your personal data (ODPC)

File a free complaint online at cie.odpc.go.ke or email complaint@odpc.go.ke, saying what happened, who it's against and what you want done. ODPC must acknowledge it within 7 days and conclude it within 90 days.

What you need
- Your national ID or passport number and your phone number or email
- Copies of any supporting documents (screenshots, messages, letters), attached to the form
- If complaining for someone else: proof you're authorised to act for them
Steps
- Go to cie.odpc.go.ke and click "Raise Complaint", or email your complaint to complaint@odpc.go.ke.
- Fill in the complaint form: what happened, who the complaint is against, when you found out and the remedy you want.
- Prefer to talk? You can complain orally, for example at an ODPC office, and ODPC will write it down for you.
- ODPC acknowledges your complaint within 7 days, then reviews and investigates it.
Watch out
- Filing a complaint is free. Don't pay anyone who asks for money to lodge it.
- Worried about the company finding out it was you? Ask ODPC to protect your identity.
- If your issue belongs to another body, ODPC may refer you there instead of investigating.
Who can apply
- Anyone whose personal data has been misused (the data subject), or someone acting for them with their authorisation.
- You can also complain anonymously.
