County Woman Representative: role and who can run
Parliament of Kenya / IEBC · sources read 4 Oct 2026
Each of the 47 counties elects one woman to the National Assembly as its County Woman Representative. She is a full MP: she makes laws, approves and oversees the national budget, and her office is where you hand in NGAAF bursary forms.
- Where
- Find your Woman Rep on the National Assembly members list at parliament.go.ke. NGAAF bursary forms go to her county office.
Steps
- Vote for your Woman Rep at the general election: the whole county is one constituency.
- As an MP she represents the people, debates their concerns and passes laws in the National Assembly.
- She votes on how national revenue is shared and spent, and oversees how it is used.
- For an NGAAF bursary, download the form from ngaaf.go.ke, fill it in and take it to your Women Representative's office.
Watch out
- Women can also run for the 290 constituency MP seats; the Woman Rep seat is extra, not a limit.
- A State officer or other public officer (other than an MP) cannot be elected while in that office.
Who this covers
- The seat is for women only, elected by all registered voters in the county.
- A candidate must be a registered voter, meet the education, moral and ethical rules in law, and be nominated by a party or run as an independent.
- She must have been a Kenyan citizen for at least the 10 years before the election.
