Driving licence suspended by NTSA: get the reasons and challenge it
National Transport and Safety Authority · sources read 18 Oct 2026
NTSA can suspend a licence, but the law requires a notice, reasons and a hearing first, and you have a right to written reasons. Write to NTSA asking why and asking for it to be reinstated. If it refuses or doesn't reply, you can appeal to the Transport Licensing Appeals Board, which has reversed an NTSA suspension made without notice or reasons. NTSA's phone: 0709 932 000.

- Where
- NTSA: 0709 932 000. Appeals: Transport Licensing Appeals Board.
Steps
- Call NTSA on 0709 932 000 to find out who suspended your licence and why.
- Write to NTSA asking for the written reasons and for the licence to be reinstated. The Constitution gives you the right to written reasons when an administrative action affects your rights. Keep a copy and the date you sent it.
- If NTSA refuses or doesn't reply, you can appeal to the Transport Licensing Appeals Board. In one case it reversed an NTSA suspension and ordered the licence renewed within 5 days.
Watch out
- NTSA's power to suspend is not unlimited: the Board said it needs a notice, reasons for the decision and a hearing before the action is taken.
