- Fee
- We couldn't confirm a fee from the official page. Check it there before you pay.
- How long
- About 6 days for small loans and 10 days for large loans, from the day you apply
- Where
- Any AFC branch (head office: Development House, Moi Avenue, Nairobi; tel. 020 3317199), or start online through eCitizen / AFC's customer portal.
What you need
- A business proposal for your farm project (it decides how much you can borrow)
- Security for the loan, usually a title deed
- If the title deed is in someone else's name: the signed legal documents allowing you to pledge it
Steps
- Go to your nearest AFC branch (there are 48 across the counties) to discuss the loan that fits your project.
- You can also start the application online through eCitizen or AFC's customer portal.
- Hand in your business proposal and security documents. AFC sets the amount based on your proposal and ability to repay.
- Once approved, sign the loan agreement. AFC aims to pay out within 5 working days of signing.
- Repay at any bank or bank agent into AFC's accounts, quoting your account number, or through the Vuna app.
Watch out
- Interest is 10% a year on a reducing balance. Some special projects, like sugarcane, are at 5%.
- No top-ups: clear your current AFC loan before applying for another.
- Seasonal crop loans for maize and wheat need at least 5 acres.
Who can apply
- Individual farmers and groups.
- For agribusiness loans: a viable business, tangible security and a 20% contribution towards the project.
- For livestock and fish loans: security, a suitable project and experience in that kind of farming.
