Get a food handlers medical certificate and food hygiene licence in Kisumu County

Each food handler in Kisumu County needs a county medical examination: KSh 500 for the requisition plus a KSh 1,000 examination fee. The business also needs a food hygiene licence: a KSh 200 form plus a fee by business type, such as KSh 2,000 for a restaurant in Kisumu City.

- County Department of Medical Services, Public Health and Sanitation, Prosperity House, 7th Floor, Kisumu, or any county office. Pay through the county's E-Revenue system (eservices.kisumu.go.ke), paybill or bank deposit.
Steps
- Get a medical examination requisition (KSh 500) for each food handler from the county public health office.
- Each food handler takes the medical examination and pays the KSh 1,000 fee.
- For the premises, fill the food hygiene application form (KSh 200) and pay the licence fee for your type of business.
- Pay only through official channels, such as the county paybill or a bank deposit to the county account, and keep the official receipt.
- Display the licence where customers can see it.
Watch out
- Always ask for an official county receipt when you pay.
- The licence must be on display at the premises at all times.
- Licence fees are lower outside Kisumu City, for example KSh 1,000 for a restaurant instead of KSh 2,000.

- Anyone running a food business in Kisumu County, since every business needs a valid county licence or permit.
- Food handlers working in those businesses, who pay the county examination fee.
