Get a medical or dental internship placement and internship licence (KMPDC)

After graduation you ballot for an internship centre, take the oath and wait for your Ministry of Health posting. Then apply to KMPDC for an internship licence (KSh 5,000) and download the logbook before you report. Interning without the licence is an offence.

What you need
- Filled internship licence application form (Form IV)
- Certified copy of your degree certificate
- Copy of your signed Hippocratic Oath
- Copy of your university indexing certificate
- Copy of your Ministry of Health posting letter
- Copy of your ID or passport and a colour passport photo
Steps
- Ballot for a slot in an approved internship centre. (Private hospital route: apply to the hospital and get an offer letter instead.)
- Attend the oathing session, where you learn about the internship and take the Hippocratic Oath.
- The approved placement list goes to the Ministry of Health, which issues your posting order. No fee at this stage.
- Apply to KMPDC for the internship licence with the form and pay KSh 5,000, then download the logbook before reporting.
Watch out
- You can't start internship without the licence and logbook. Doing it without a licence is illegal.
- Unhappy with your centre? Use the Change of Internship form: a variation before you report, or a transfer after. It's free.
Who can apply
- Medical and dental graduates of Kenyan and East African schools, who must appear on the list sent by their dean.
- Foreign-trained graduates can join after passing the Internship Qualifying Exam.
