What you need

  • Printed application form (Form 19) and 2 payment invoices from eCitizen
  • The child's original birth certificate and a copy
  • A filled consent form for minors: the biological parent's or legal guardian's authorisation for the passport
  • Copies of both parents' ID cards (or a death certificate where a parent has died)

Steps

  1. On eCitizen (dis.ecitizen.go.ke), fill in the passport application for your child, upload the documents and pay the fee.
  2. Book an appointment on eCitizen and pick a passport centre: Nairobi (Nyayo House), Kisumu, Mombasa, Eldoret, Nakuru, Embu, Kisii, Kericho or Bungoma.
  3. On the appointment day, go with the child, the printed form, invoices and original documents so the child's photo and fingerprints can be taken.
  4. When you're told the passport is ready, collect it at the same centre with the invoice, your original ID and the child's original birth certificate.

Watch out

  • A relative can't bring the child in place of the parents. Only a biological parent, or a guardian with court papers, can present the child.
  • You collect the passport only from the centre where the child's biometrics were taken.

Who can apply

  • Children who are Kenyan citizens. The e-passport is valid for 10 years.
  • The application must be made by the child's biological parent, or a guardian appointed by the court.
