Get a police abstract (lost ID, documents or an accident)

Report the loss or accident at a police station, then fill in the police abstract form (download it from the Kenya Police website or get it at any police station) and have the station confirm and sign it. The abstract form is free.

What you need
- The police abstract form, with the application part filled in (your name, address, the police station you reported at and the date)
- For a road accident: the Police Accident Abstract form, filled in 3 copies
Steps
- Report the loss (for example your ID or documents) or the incident at a police station. Keep the station name and the date you reported.
- Get the police abstract form: download it from the Kenya Police website (kenyapolice.go.ke, Forms) or pick it up at any police station.
- Fill in the application part and take it to the station where you reported. The officer in charge confirms your report on the form and signs it.
- For a road accident, use the Police Accident Abstract form instead and send it in 3 copies to the officer in charge of the police Division.
Watch out
- The abstract form is free. You should not be asked to pay for it.
- For an accident, police usually give the abstract only after their proceedings on the case are finished, unless the Attorney-General agrees otherwise.
- An abstract is a summary of the facts, not a copy of the police report. Police records are confidential and copies are not given out.

- Anyone who has reported a loss or incident at a police station
- For a road accident: the people involved, or their lawyers or other properly authorised representatives
