Get a practising certificate as an HR professional (IHRM)

First become a full IHRM member, then download IHRM's practising certificate form, attach certified copies of your degree and HR professional certificates, your CV and an employer recommendation letter, and pay the KSh 1,000 application fee. IHRM's Registration Committee approves it.

What you need
- Current Full Membership Certificate from IHRM
- Undergraduate degree certificate (any discipline)
- Professional HR certificate(s), e.g. HND-HRM, Postgraduate Diploma in HR, CHRP or MSc/MBA-HR
- Curriculum vitae (CV)
- Recommendation letter from your current or previous employer
- If your certificates are foreign: a confirmation letter from the Commission for University Education (CUE)
Steps
- Make sure you are a full IHRM member with a current membership certificate. Membership applications are on the IHRM member portal (members.ihrm.or.ke).
- Download the practising certificate application form from ihrm.or.ke, fill it in and tick whether you work in an organisation or in an HR firm.
- Get your certificates certified by the institution that issued them or by an advocate of the High Court, and attach them with your CV and recommendation letter.
- Pay the KSh 1,000 application fee and submit. IHRM's Registration Committee reviews and approves the application.
Watch out
- Plain photocopies are not enough: certificates must be certified by the issuing institution or an advocate.
- Foreign degrees need a CUE confirmation letter before IHRM will consider them.
Who can apply
- IHRM members who do HR work in an organisation.
- IHRM members who offer HR consultancy through a registered HR firm.
- To join IHRM at all you need at least a Diploma in Human Resource.
