Apply for development permission at the county Lands, Housing and Physical Planning department (KSh 1,000 form) and pay plan fees by plinth area. A house under 46 m2 costs KSh 1,600 for the architectural plan and KSh 800 for the structural plan.

Steps
- Fill in the application for development permission (KSh 1,000 per form).
- Submit your architectural plans and pay the fee for your plinth area.
- Submit the structural plans and pay the structural fee.
- Get the public health certification of the plan (KSh 1,000 for a single-level house).
- When the house is finished, get a building occupational permit (KSh 4,000 per residential unit).
Watch out
- If you have not built within 2 years of approval, you must pay to renew the plan.
