Get building plans approved by Vihiga County

Apply to the county physical planning department with form PPA 1 (KSh 500) and pay plan fees by floor area. For a house up to 46 m2 that is KSh 2,400 for the architectural plan and KSh 800 for the structural plan, plus KSh 3,000 public health approval for a single storey.

Steps
- Apply with form PPA 1 and pay the KSh 500 application fee.
- Pay the architectural plan fee for your floor area.
- Pay the structural plan fee, also by floor area.
- Get public health approval of the plan (KSh 3,000 for a single-storey house).
- When the house is finished, get an occupational certificate (KSh 1,500 per unit).
Watch out
- Building without approval costs far more: the non-compliance charge for a small house plan is KSh 13,000 instead of KSh 2,400.
- Changing an approved plan without permission attracts a KSh 50,000 penalty.
