County Government of Busia · sources read 1 Oct 2026
Fill in the approved form, lodge it with the Busia County licensing officer and pay the licence fee. Every business needs a licence, and it runs out on 31 December each year, so renew yearly.
- Fee
- We couldn't confirm a fee from the official page. Check it there before you pay.
- Deadline
- Your licence expires at midnight on 31 December. Renew it for the new year.
- Where
- County licensing officer, Department of Trade, County Government of Busia, Busia town. The county also has an E-Services Portal (busiapay.busiacounty.go.ke). Help: +254700106517 or info@busiacounty.go.ke
Steps
- Get the approved trade licence application form from the county Department of Trade and fill it in.
- Hand the form to the county licensing officer.
- Pay the licence fee. If your application meets the rules, the officer then grants the licence.
- Display the licence clearly at your premises. No premises? Carry it with you and show it when asked.
Watch out
- The fee is the same whichever month you apply, so applying late in the year doesn't make it cheaper.
- If your application is rejected, the county must tell you why within 14 days, and you can apply again once you fix it.
- Trading without a licence: a registered business can be fined KSh 10,000 (KSh 20,000 if it happens again that year).
Who can apply
- Anyone who plans to run a business or trade in Busia County must get a licence first.
