Steps

  1. Apply to the county for a new permit (application fee KSh 300) or for renewal (KSh 200).
  2. The county bills you the yearly permit fee for your type and size of business and your zone (A, B or C).
  3. Pay only through an authorised county channel and make sure you get an official receipt.
  4. Pay it all at once for a discount, or in instalments: half-year (50%) or quarterly (25%).

Watch out

  • Paying after 31 March adds a penalty of 3% a month, compounded.
  • Paying the full unified invoice at once gets a discount: 10% for small and medium businesses, 5% for large ones.
  • Only pay county officers who identify themselves, and always ask for an official receipt.

Who can apply

  • Anyone running a business in Makueni County. The fee depends on your zone: Zone A (Wote, Emali, Sultan Hamud, Makindu, Kibwezi), Zone B (medium markets) or Zone C (all other markets).
