What you need

  • Health clearance certificate for liquor licensing (KSh 3,000 a year)

Steps

  1. Get a health clearance certificate for liquor licensing from the county. It costs KSh 3,000 a year.
  2. Apply to the County Government of Narok and pay the KSh 1,000 application fee.
  3. Pay the licence fee for your type of business and zone, for 12 or 6 months. A bar in a main town outside Narok Town pays KSh 30,000 a year.
  4. You can apply and pay for county licences online on the county's Revenue & Licensing portal.

Watch out

  • You can take a 6-month licence instead of a full year. A bar in zone B pays KSh 18,000 for 6 months instead of KSh 30,000.
  • Your zone sets the price. The Finance Act's zone A list includes Narok and Kilgoris municipalities, Suswa, Ololulunga, Talek, Sekenani and the Maasai Mara National Reserve.
  • A one-off event needs a temporary licence, at KSh 2,000 per day.
