What you need

  • Diamond Mark application form (STA 1), filled in duplicate
  • Assessment form (STA 3)
  • Standards levy notification form (SL1), filled in duplicate
  • Copy of company registration (CR12 for limited companies; registration evidence for CBOs, co-operatives, self-help groups)
  • The product standards that apply to your product (specification and sector codes of practice)

Steps

  1. Download the STA 1, STA 3 and SL1 forms from the KEBS Quality Assurance Diamond Mark page and fill them in.
  2. Submit the filled forms, company registration and fee. KEBS reviews the application and assigns an inspector.
  3. KEBS inspects your production process and quality controls. Fix any problems found and tell KEBS what you did.
  4. The Permit Approval Committee reviews the recommendation. Once all requirements are met, you get a Diamond Mark permit with a unique number to print on your label.

Watch out

  • Each permit covers one product, brand and manufacturing site, and cannot be moved to another site, branch or firm.
  • With a Diamond Mark permit you also qualify for the Standardization Mark (S-Mark) at no extra cost. The permit lasts 4 years.
  • Foreign manufacturers must show evidence that they have a local agent in Kenya. Their fees are different (in US dollars).

Who can apply

  • Any manufacturer, based in Kenya or abroad, that meets the Diamond Mark criteria. It is voluntary.
  • New applicants need product compliance history to standards at least every 3 months over the last year.
