Grade 7 (Junior School) placement under CBE
Ministry of Education · sources read 4 Oct 2026
There is no Grade 7 selection: learners who finish Grade 6 move up to Junior School in the same school, because Junior School is housed in primary schools. KPSEA scores do not decide whether or where a child joins.
- Fee
- We couldn't confirm a fee from the official page. Check it there before you pay.
- Where
- No application needed: your child continues at their current primary school (or its linked Junior School). Ask the head teacher or the Sub-County Director of Education about transfers.
Steps
- Make sure your child sits KPSEA in Grade 6.
- Your child moves up to Grade 7 in the same school. You do not need to apply anywhere.
- If the primary school is too small or lacks facilities for Junior School, it acts as a feeder school and its learners go to a nearby Junior School, within about 2 km in towns and informal settlements.
- If you want a different school, use the normal Ministry of Education transfer process.
Watch out
- KPSEA results are not used to pick or deny a Grade 7 place.
- Any move of learners to another school must be done with the County Director of Education, parents and the community.
Who can apply
- Every child who completes Grade 6, whatever their assessment scores.
- Junior School learners must have sat KPSEA in Grade 6.
- Public day Junior School is free: the government pays capitation.
