Join the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF recruitment)
Ministry of Defence / Kenya Defence Forces · sources read 30 Sep 2026
KDF recruits in set cycles, and the Ministry of Defence announces each one on mod.go.ke and verified KDF social media. Wait for that official advert, check the rules for your category, and apply the way it says. Recruitment is free: never pay anyone for a slot.
- Fee
- We couldn't confirm a fee from the official page. Check it there before you pay.
- Where
- As the official Ministry of Defence advert says: online for officer, specialist and tradesmen posts, and at recruitment centres for General Duty Recruits and Constables
What you need
- Your original documents, plus 4 copies each of your national ID, KRA PIN certificate and academic certificates (as in the 2025 advert)
Steps
- Watch for the official recruitment advert from the Ministry of Defence on mod.go.ke and verified KDF social media accounts.
- Read the advert for your category and follow the application steps it gives.
- Officer cadets, Specialist Officers and Tradesmen/women: in 2025 these applied online only, at recruit.mod.go.ke.
- General Duty Recruits and Defence Forces Constables: go to the recruitment centre on the date listed in the advert. KDF teams recruit on the spot.
- Give accurate information and bring your original documents for recruitment and verification.
Watch out
- Recruitment is free and open to everyone who qualifies. Bribing anyone to get in is a crime, so never pay for a "slot".
- Don't trust recruitment dates from random social media posts, agents or people who say they have "connections" in KDF. Check mod.go.ke.
- If someone asks you for money to get recruited, report it at the nearest police station or military camp.
Who can apply
- Requirements depend on the category (General Duty Recruits, Defence Forces Constables, GSO Cadets, Specialist Officers) and are set in each cycle's official advert.
- In the last advert (2025): you had to be a Kenyan citizen.
- In the last advert (2025): you needed a valid Kenyan national ID card.
