Go to LSK

What you need

  • Signed Declaration Form (filled and uploaded on the LSK portal)

Steps

  1. Log in to your LSK portal account (Advocate Login on lsk.or.ke), then fill, sign and upload the Declaration Form and make the payment.
  2. LSK reviews it. Once approved, LSK sends your application to the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary.
  3. The Chief Registrar checks it and issues your digital practising certificate through JAMS.
  4. Get the certificate by email, or download it from My Certificates on JAMS or from the LSK portal.

Watch out

  • The certificate is yearly and runs from 1 January to 31 December, so renew it every year.
  • The Judiciary charges nothing for the certificate, but you must first pay LSK's certificate fee and the LSK and Advocates Benevolent Association subscriptions. LSK and the ABA set these amounts.
  • If you have gone 12 months or more without a certificate (and in some other cases), you must give the Chief Registrar and LSK at least six weeks' written notice before applying.

Who can apply

  • Advocates of the High Court of Kenya. By law you must be an LSK member to practise as an advocate.
  • Newly admitted advocates get an LSK portal account after admission and apply for their first certificate there.
  • Any advocate who practises: practising law without an annual certificate is an offence.
