- KSh 1,050Motor vehicle inspection at NTSA

Steps
- Log in to the NTSA Service Portal through eCitizen to book the inspection.
- Apply for inspection and choose the type: New, Annual, Compliance or Change of particulars. Pay the fee on the portal.
- Take the vehicle to the NTSA inspection centre you booked.
- If the vehicle passes, the inspector gives you an inspection sticker and an inspection report. If it fails, you get a defect report listing the repairs needed.
Watch out
- Private cars: NTSA says enforcement of mandatory inspection for private vehicles will be announced later, and traffic officers won't enforce it on private owners during route checks for now.
- Inspection is done at NTSA centres only. NTSA has not licensed any private company to inspect vehicles, so avoid anyone offering it.
- If the vehicle fails, fix the listed defects and bring it back to the same centre within 14 days: the re-inspection is free. After 14 days, or at another centre, you pay again.
Who can apply
- Public service vehicles (matatus, buses), commercial vehicles and school vehicles: inspection by NTSA once every year, whatever the vehicle's age.
- Other vehicles, private or government-owned, older than four years from the date of manufacture: once a year under the 2026 rules (see the note on private cars below).
