Steps

  1. Check the Kenya Railways timetable for your route. Trains run from Nairobi Central Station to Embakasi Village, Syokimau, Limuru, Lukenya and Ruiru, and back.
  2. Buy your ticket from Kenya Railways staff: pay by M-Pesa through eCitizen, pay cash, or use a prepaid A-card you can top up.
  3. Keep your ticket for the whole trip. Staff can scan its QR code to check it is valid.

Watch out

  • If the M-Pesa prompt is slow to arrive, staff can confirm your payment with the eCitizen code, so keep it handy.
  • Be at the station before the train's departure time. Trains run to a fixed timetable.

Who can apply

  • Anyone travelling with a valid ticket
