Get your land rates bill from the Machakos County finance and revenue department (call 0800600016 free) and pay it every financial year. The minimum is KSh 1,200 a year.

- Get your land rates bill from the county finance and revenue department at county headquarters, Machakos. Call 0800600016 (free) or email finance@machakos.go.ke.
- Check the amount: the county's rate struck is 0.05%, and the minimum yearly land rates are KSh 1,200.
- Ask whether you can pay in instalments. The law lets the county allow instalments or one full payment.

Watch out
- If you get a written demand for unpaid rates, you have 60 days to pay before the county can act.
- Rates left unpaid after a demand can end with the county auctioning the property.
- If the county charges interest on late rates, it can't be more than the Central Bank rate.
Who can apply
- Owners of land or buildings in Machakos County, including holders of leases with 21 years or more left
- In some cases the person occupying the property is the one who pays
